All About Us

Joe M. Tison Middle School is located in Weatherford, Texas.  The campus opened in the fall of 1997 in honor of Mayor Joe M. Tison.  Mr. Tison served as Superintendent of Schools from 1986 until 1997.  He also served as Mayor of the City of Weatherford from 2000 to 2007.

Tison Middle School services over 800 students each year and prides itself on striving to inspire a passion for lifelong learning within every student.  Classrooms are student focused and structured to not only present content in challenging ways, but also to promote critical skills such as stamina, grit, and collaboration that can be used throughout life.

The Tison Middle School Band program has over 200 participating students and is divided into two advanced performing ensembles and instrument specific beginning band classes.  Beginner band typically begins in the sixth grade year with like instrument classes that meet daily.  Classes offered include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. By the end of the year, students have a firm grasp of how to play their instrument, read music, and understand basic music theory concepts.  At this point, students then audition to be placed in the performing ensembles.

7th and 8th grade students in our program are given multiple opportunities to perform throughout the year at events such as pep rallies, "Mass Band Night", the Texas UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation, seasonal concerts, and solo and ensemble competition.  Students in our top Honor Band also compete individually in the fall through the local Invitation Honor Band and the Region 30 All-Region Band Competition.  Tison has a proud history of student success in both of these events and continues to strive for excellence in performance both individually and in ensembles.
